We are recruiting for a Principal Design Engineer (Civils) to join us at Navitas Engineering either in London or Glasgow.

The Principal Design Engineer (Civils) will play a leading role in the establishment, development and growth of the civil engineering design discipline within Navitas Engineering. As one of the senior technical leaders within this new business unit, the role is responsible for shaping the technical direction, standards, processes and capability of the civil engineering function whilst delivering high-quality engineering services to clients.

The Principal Design Engineer (Civils) will provide technical leadership and oversight across a portfolio of civil and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, with a focus on civil engineering elements associated with electrical power and traction power systems, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, compliant and innovative design solutions.

The role combines technical excellence, project delivery, business development and people leadership, with responsibility for supporting the growth of the discipline through work-winning, client relationship management, recruitment, mentoring and capability development.

The Principal Design Engineer will support the establishment of best practice, develop technical standards and procedures, build engineering teams, and position the business as a recognised provider of civil engineering services across the rail, energy, utilities and wider infrastructure sectors.

You'll bring… (your wealth of experience & qualifications)

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Significant experience within rail, energy or utility infrastructure sectors.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or demonstrable progress towards chartership.
• Membership of ICE or other relevant professional institution.
• Experience acting as CRE, Lead Designer or discipline lead.
• Demonstrable experience leading engineering teams and managing multidisciplinary interfaces.
• Strong understanding of design management and assurance processes.
• Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and designer responsibilities.
• Experience managing technical, programme and commercial project risks.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

• Experience supporting business development and work winning activities.
• Experience in team leadership.
• Knowledge of BIM, common data environments and digital engineering practices.
