Managing Quantity Surveyor (0883)

We are recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join us at Octavius, leading the commercial delivery of a growing portfolio of rail infrastructure projects across Network Rail's North West & Central Framework.

Octavius is a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable and efficient transport solutions across the UK. As we continue to grow our rail portfolio, this is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a diverse programme of works and play a key role in shaping its commercial success.

We are appointed to Network Rail's North West & Central Capital Delivery Framework (CP7: 2024-2029), delivering multi-disciplinary rail projects across stations, civils, accessibility improvements and rail systems.

You'll be working on...

You'll lead the commercial delivery of a varied portfolio of projects across the South and Midlands, supporting both station infrastructure and accessibility programmes.

Your portfolio currently includes:

• A major project in the Bushey / Watford area
• Access for All (AfA) schemes at Kings Langley and Wellington
• Future projects as the framework continues to grow

These projects are progressing from design into delivery, giving you the opportunity to influence commercial strategy from an early stage whilst supporting successful project outcomes through to completion.

In this role, you'll:

• Lead the commercial management of multiple projects, ensuring strong financial and contractual performance
• Take ownership of forecasting, cost planning, CVR reporting and change management
• Lead procurement and supply chain engagement
• Manage risk and identify commercial opportunities
• Provide commercial leadership to project teams and stakeholders
• Support the development and growth of the wider commercial team

You'll work with...

A collaborative team of commercial, project and delivery professionals working across some of the UK's most important rail infrastructure programmes.

You'll work closely with clients, framework partners, project teams and supply chain organisations, helping to shape the commercial performance of the framework whilst building long-term relationships.

The role can be based from London, Watford or project locations and typically involves a blend of site, office and home working, with around three days per week spent on site or in the office.

About you...

You're an experienced commercial leader who enjoys taking ownership of projects, building relationships and developing teams.

Whether you're already operating as a Managing Quantity Surveyor or you're a Senior Quantity Surveyor ready for the next step, you'll be comfortable managing multiple stakeholders and driving strong commercial outcomes.

You'll bring...

• Significant experience within a Quantity Surveying or commercial management role
• Strong knowledge of cost management, forecasting and contractual administration
• Experience working with NEC contracts, ideally NEC4
• Experience delivering infrastructure, civil engineering or rail projects
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
• Experience managing or mentoring commercial team members

Ideally, you'll also have:

• Rail infrastructure experience
• Access for All (AfA) project experience
• Professional membership (RICS, CICES or similar), or be working towards it
