Our Year in Industry Placement – Electrical Engineering offers the opportunity to work on live infrastructure projects, develop practical engineering skills, and learn from experienced professionals across our highways and rail teams.
This placement is designed to support your academic learning while giving you valuable insight into what a career in electrical engineering within infrastructure really looks like.

What you'll be doing
You'll gain experience across both site and office environments, helping you build a well-rounded understanding of electrical engineering in practice. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting project teams with the delivery of electrical works on site
- Assisting with installation, testing and commissioning activities
- Reviewing and helping prepare electrical drawings and schematics
- Supporting electrical calculations, load assessments and equipment selection
- Assisting with technical documentation, reports and quality checks
- Working alongside experienced Electrical Engineers, Site Managers and Project Engineers
- Helping to identify and resolve basic electrical issues under supervision
- Promoting high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance

You'll be part of a collaborative, supportive team including Electrical Engineers, Project Engineers, Site Managers and Engineering Managers. Building strong working relationships will be key to your success, and you'll also have opportunities to engage with suppliers, clients and local communities.

About you… (what we're looking for)
You'll be someone who is enthusiastic, curious and keen to learn. Ideally, you will:
- Be studying towards a degree in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related discipline)
- Be completing a Year in Industry / Industrial Placement as part of your course
- Have a proactive and adaptable approach to learning
- Be organised, with good attention to detail
- Enjoy working as part of a team and communicating with others
- Have a genuine interest in infrastructure, engineering and sustainability
A full UK driving licence is desirable due to site travel requirements.
