Summer Placement – Electrical Engineering

At Octavius Infrastructure, we believe in helping you be your best in the work you do. Our eight-week Summer Placement is designed to give aspiring electrical engineers practical experience, exposure to real infrastructure projects and the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals.

Starting in June or July 2027, you'll apply what you've learned at university in a practical environment while developing valuable technical and professional skills to support your future career.

The placement

This isn't just work experience. It's an opportunity to explore a career in electrical engineering and gain a genuine understanding of what it's like to work within the infrastructure industry.

During your eight-week placement, you'll work across site and office-based environments, supporting the delivery of electrical solutions for projects that connect communities and improve transport networks. You'll gain exposure to the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems while developing your communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

A successful summer placement may also lead to consideration for future opportunities with Octavius, including a Year in Industry Placement or our Graduate Scheme.

What you'll do

During your placement, you'll:

• Support project teams with the safe and efficient installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Assist with electrical engineering activities and project documentation.
• Gain practical experience across site and office-based environments.
• Work alongside Site Managers, Project Managers, Project Engineers and Engineering Managers.
• Build positive relationships with colleagues, clients, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
• Develop your understanding of health, safety and quality within an infrastructure environment.
• Bring fresh ideas, energy and an inquisitive approach to our projects.
• Learn more about the different career opportunities available within electrical engineering and infrastructure.

What we're looking for

You'll be:

• Currently studying towards a degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Available to complete an eight-week placement commencing in June or July 2027.
• Interested in developing a career within infrastructure, construction or engineering.
• Proactive, adaptable and keen to apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting.
• A confident communicator who enjoys working collaboratively with others.
• Inquisitive, enthusiastic and willing to learn.
• Passionate about problem-solving, safety and quality.
• Comfortable working across both site and office-based environments.
• Willing to travel and stay away from home when required to support our projects.
• Ideally, the holder of a full UK driving licence due to the site-based nature of the placement.
